Preparations
Place 2 cups of 100 percent pomegranate juice in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium-low heat. Cook until it has reduced by half. Add 2 cups sugar and stir until it has dissolved. Remove the pan from heat and let the grenadine cool completely before using or storing in the refrigerator.
Method
- Fill a Collins glass with ice, add the tequila, and top with orange juice.
- Pour the grenadine into the middle of the drink and stop there — it is heavier than the juice and sinks on its own.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.
Variations on this
- Tequila Sunrise (Original)crème de cassis and soda, from before the grenadine version
- Apple Sunrisecalvados and cassis in place of the tequila and grenadine
