Preparations
Toast allspice and juniper berries, peppercorns, coriander, fenugreek, a cinnamon stick, a piece of star anise and a clove until aromatic. Put them in a jar with a bottle of vodka and leave four days somewhere dark. Strain, stir in a tablespoon of maple syrup, and chill an hour before pouring.
Place 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan and bring it to boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove the pan from heat and let the syrup cool completely before using or storing.
Method
- Add everything to a shaker, fill it two-thirds with ice, and shake hard until cold.
- Strain over ice into the rocks glass and express the orange twist over the cocktail.
- Garnish with orange twist and a dusting of nutmeg.
